Cars, Bikes and insurance...or lackthereof!

Well, this upcoming tuesday, Rob is selling his Civic. Rob needs the bling bling to pay to get some sweet stomach sugery and it is a pain to have in NYC anyway. Rob will offically move on to a bike only lifestyle, like his days in fair old Portland Oregon. Having the car to sell makes me thankful for having such an item to sell. 45 million people in the US do not have health insurance and probably are not in a position to sell off vehicles to pay for esential sugery. The US needs to address this issue and look at changing its war on places it has oil interests to a war on dealing with persons with unmet medical needs due to a lack of preventitive, secondary and teritary care being offered to our fair fellow US citizens. It is patriotic to care about our citizens health.
So how many people is 45 million?
Today, the Census Bureau reported that 45 million Americans lacked health insurance in 2003, up by 1.4 million from 2002 and 5.2 million from 2000. The report states that this increase is "statistically significant."

watch out NYC

New Hampshire All Stars Jaymz Murphy, Jennifer Gray and John Benford are in town this weekend!
Adventures are sure to follow.

Herald Square

For the last 4 weeks of work, it has been the same sight as Rob gets out of the subway. The newspaper-woman passing out AM-New Yorks, some dude setting up his language translation book sale table, some old Palistilian Man selling grapes, a Rhasta homeless man with a sign asking for bling bling and a chap in the golf store, dancing to his IPOD and waving to the un-phased onlookers.
This is new york at 9:41AM at Herald Square Subway station.

RENT! 4 Free!

Paige got free tickets for us to see Rent from NYU.

Rent is the smash hit musical that's infusing and reinventing Broadway nightly it with its own brand of youthful energy. Jonathan Larson's rock musical is the joyous, breathtaking and inspiring story of a group of New York City East Village artists struggling to find their voices and find love in today's tough times.

Based on Giacomo Puccini's classic 1896 opera, La Boheme, Rent boasts a talented and hot young cast singing some of Broadway's most powerful songs, broaching controversial themes like homelessness, AIDS and drug addiction with compassion, and thrilling audiences of all ages with its moving tale of hopes and dreams.

We heart Germany (oder Warum veir lieben Wurst)

Markus, Adina, Paige and Rob went to the Germany/AmeriKa friendship parade
Many good times were had, including seeing a Weiner dog pull a float and many german folk spotting
Rob and Markus got nastalgic for the good old days in Bavaria, Hessen and Saarbruken.
In order to deal with the german gentleman's pain, we went and eat sausages. One batch at the german/american parade and another set at a BBQ at brooklyn.

I'll meet you at the Greenwood Cemetary Gates

Rob, Paige, Gabi (a friend of Rob's from NYC Ultimate), and one of Paige's friends from high school went to greenwood cemetary on labour day sunday to find the grave of Basquiet (a buddy of Andy Warhol). The Green-Wood Cemetery has long been considered one of the world's most beautiful cemeteries and is the final resting place of nearly 600,000 persons, including some of history's most memorable figures. Since its establishment in 1838, The Green-Wood Cemetery has offered a dignified selection of burial options including an urn garden, columbarium, community and private family mausoleums, as well as traditional, in-ground burials, all in a historic, non-sectarian setting. With 478 acres filled with thousands of trees, flowering shrubs and four lakes.
Alas though! We did not find his grave in this cemetary, we looked in the plot where he was supposed to reside for over an hour and then geve up.
So we came home to BBQ the night away on the mini webber (YES!!!!)

emac

Rob's computer broke down today, so we had to lug the 75 pound beast from our apartment to SOHO to have it repaired. We stuffed it into a laundry bag and took it on the subway. And oh yeah, it was raining, so Paige had to cover the CPU with an Umbrella. Good times......The apple store was able to fix it, but Rob and Paige could not face taking it back to the house so soon after lugging it over there. So we met Patrick for a milkshake and some post beers, before taking the beast master back home on the subway.
A fine day indeed.
In other news Paige is applying for a internship with the Museum of Modern Art and she has been working hard on writing an application for them
